Anglers for a Cure

May 13, 2010

Borland-Groover Clinic sponsors this years “Anglers for a Cure” Inshore Slam Fishing tournament, held at Sisters Creek Marina on June 19th. Proceeds will benefit the National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance for continued research in the fight against colorectal cancer and to raise awareness of the importance of early detection. The NCCRA, which was co-founded by Katie Couric, Lilly Tartikoff, and 2 local teen anglers Jordan Carroll and Matt Hahnemann in 2006, has raised over $45,000 in support of this ongoing initiative to prevent colorectal cancer.

As longtime friends and fellow anglers, Jordan and Matt felt compelled to combine their love of fishing with fierce dedication after Jordan’s father, Doug Carroll was diagnosed with stage IV colorectal cancer in 2004.Jordan’s Dad passed away just 2 weeks after the 1st annual fishing tournament in 2006. Doug Carroll’s colorectal cancer was diagnosed after a colonoscopy at Borland-Groover Clinic’s endoscopy center. Our sponsorship and support with Anglers for a Cure has never been more important to our organization and the NCCRA. Join us in fishing for a cure this June!
